Reinis Bērziņš, a graduate of RGSL Law&Finance masters programme himself, will speak about the topic of “Development banks: Do we need them?” He has been the CEO of the development bank called Altum for nine years. Altum is considered one of the most successfully managed state capital companies. It was established by merging three state owned companies in 2015 and since then has grown its service portfolio approximately three times, while maintaining excellent NPL ratio and the highest Moody’s rating among national companies.
ALTUM is a state-owned capital company, which offers state aid for various target groups with the help of financial tools (such as loans, credit guarantees, investing in venture capital funds, etc.). ALTUM develops and implements state aid programmes to compensate for the market’s shortcomings that private financial institutions can’t solve.
State aid programmes administered by ALTUM, are implemented with public resources – European Union and other international institutions, national and ALTUM’s attracted financing.
Altum has received several awards, for example:
•Latvian Corporate Governance Award in 2022;
