In order to carry out our vision of establishing Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) as a leading research-intensive centre of legal studies in the Baltic area, RGSL will hold its 3rd Research Week from 9 – 13 October 2023 with an intensive programme aimed to educate our students on the perspectives and practices in research, as well as celebrate their achievements at the 4th International Student Research conference on 13 October.
The research week will commence with an introduction to Y1 Research Paper in Law by RGSL Bachelor programme Director Dr. Inga Jēkabsone, and a lecture "Research: turning the unknown into known, and vice versa" by RGSL Lecturer Anastasija Kaplane on 11 October. On 12 October students are welcome to the RGSL Anniversary lecture “Well-tempered power: A cultural achievement of universal significance” by Professor Martin Krygier from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
On 13 October the floor will be given to the students to present their research papers at the RGSL 4th International Student Research Paper Conference. The Conference will be opened by RGSL Rector Dr. Adam Czarnota and RGSL Director Ieva Rācenāja who will present the Excellence Awards to the best 8 students of the previous academic year, and followed by a keynote lecture by RGSL Visiting Docent, Dr.sc.jur. Aleksandrs Potaičuks on “Data protection under review of the Constitutional Court: administrative databases directly accessible to public authorities”. Student perspective on research will be represented by Paula Lipe, RGSL Graduate of 2022, as well as student research paper presentations.
The conference will be organised in 4 sections – “In the context of war”, moderated by Anastasija Kaplane, “Politics coming into play” moderated by Dr. Adam Czarnota, “Human Rights” moderated by Anastasija Kaplane and “Competition and more” moderated by Dr. Inga Jēkabsone.
