Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) Excellence School participants received their diplomas on March 8 after three sessions of intensive learning over the academic year of 2018/19 and a visit to a law firm Ellex Kļaviņš, where they were welcomed by the partners Raimonds Slaidiņš and Zinta Jansons, as well as RGSL faculty and Senior Associate Edvijs Zandars and RGSL Alumni, Associate Marta Cera, who told the students about the company, its history and structure, and what it means to be a lawyer.
RGSL Excellence School participants – high school students from Latvia – were given a lecture about a career in diplomacy, presented by H.E. Ilze Rūse, RGSL Associate Professor, European Politics, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and an insight by a RGSL Alumni Reinis Znotiņš, newly elected Parliament member from the Young Conservatives party. They had a chance to participate in a case study, describing legal case analysis, strategic advocacy and oral argumentation from an international perspective led by RGSL Alumni Christy Kollmar, Lawyer at the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, PhD Fellow at University of Copenhagen, as well as take a workshop in perfecting the public speaking skills led by Dāvis Golds from Toastmasters. One of RGSL favorite faculty, Masters Programmes director Waleed Gumaa gave a lecture on “Global Interdependence”, and Tomass Barilo, Managing Director of WorkingDay Latvia shared his experience in creating his own business as well as gave an introduction on soft skills employers are looking for.
RGSL Excellence School is a free-of charge event series aimed at 11th and 12th grade high school students from all over Latvia designed to give a better insight in what it means to be a law, diplomacy or business student. RGSL Excellence school graduates receive 15% tuition fee discount for the first study year.
