Within the framework of Jean Monnet project on 7 January 2023 Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) carried out a negotiation simulation of the EU Council. In line with the JM project objectives students engaged in practical and innovative teaching methods by studying the decision-making on the Directive on Posting of workers and simulating its adoption at the Ministerial Council.
The aim was to explain in practice the decision making – from the Commission initiative to the adoption of it at first reading within the Ordinary legislative procedure (Art.289, TFEU). Problem solving and consensus building was specifically addressed, in addition to a better understanding of EU institutional interaction, says RGSL Professor, Jean Monnet Chair Ilze Rūse. The negotiation seminar was an integrated part of the Master degree course "EU Decision Making and Institutional Law" as a part of Jean Monnet Project in 2022/2023 study term.
And most importantly – students truly liked it!
