Project title: EU Fundamental Values in Times of Crisis
Period: 2022-2025
With the support of the Erasmus+ Programme Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) will implement the project “EU Fundamental Values in Times of Crisis”.
Over the first two decades of the 21st century, the EU has faced multiple challenges both within and beyond its borders, the biggest of them being the 2008 global financial crisis, the subsequent Greek default, the refugee crisis, Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
The EU’s response to challenges is guided by the values that have crystallised over the years of European integration: democracy, equality, rule of law and respect for fundamental rights.
Over three years, RGSL will organise three summer schools for students (at least 45), discussing how these principles shape the Union’s response to crises. The students will examine the legal and political crisis management mechanisms as well as meet the policymakers and civil servants.
The project thus pursues two key objectives:
1. To train students about the EU’s fundamental values in times of crisis
2. To increase the knowledge on EU fundamental values and to contribute to the effort of bringing the EU closer to the public.
Total budget: 13 500 EUR
