On Monday, June 8, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs together with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Sharon Hudson-Dean and Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) Rector George Ulrich, will announce a new partnership to support RGSL Advanced Program in Law Economics for European Neighborhood Policy Countries and Central Asia. This three-month training program offers practical skills to professionals from Latvia’s Central Asian partners who wish to engage in law and economics and increase cooperation with the European Union.
The U.S. Embassy will support the program with a grant of 239,000 US dollars (215,000 euro) enabling approximately 19 Central Asian students to attend the fall session of the program. This is the largest non-military related grant that the U.S. Embassy has provided to a Latvian partner in nearly 20 years. The U.S. Embassy sees the program as a valuable tool for Latvians to share their experience with their Central Asian counterparts. The Governments of Sweden and Luxembourg also provide support for the RGSL program.
Media are invited to cover the official ceremony marking the new partnership on June 8, at 12:00 p.m. at the RGSL lobby, Strēlnieku street 4k-2. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Sharon Hudson-Dean will address the assembled guests. Media interested in covering the event should register with the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section by 10:00 on Monday, June 8.
