To develop international competitiveness and exploit new markets, the Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) plans to offer students undergraduate and graduate academic programmes.
Only competitive, international quality standards and suitably qualified teachers provide Latvian students a unique opportunity to obtain highly evaluated education and study in an international environment here in Latvia. The example of the Riga Graduate School of Law shows that Latvian education can become a high-quality export product. In 2009 almost 40% of all university students were foreign students.
"Currently the competition in the education sector is intense and the students have a wide choice of which country to go to for studies. In the years of its existence Riga Graduate School of Law with its programmes and faculty has taken a solid niche in the Latvian education market and been able to attract students from East and West. We have graduates from the Baltic States, the USA, France, Georgia, Kosovo, Russia, Ukraine, Germany and other European countries, demonstrating the competitiveness of the university not only in the domestic but also the international market and the export potential of higher education in Latvia. Like other sectors providing export of goods, the higher education also requires state aid", says George Ulrich, Rector of the Riga Graduate School of Law.
In response to market demand, RGSL is planning to expand. Besides the seven accredited masters programmes that provide education of specialists required in the international labour market, in late 2010 RGSL will offer two new undergraduate programmes and a PhD programme. Currently, bachelors programmes in Law and Business and Diplomacy and International Relations are being licensed. The PhD programme is planned to be implemented in cooperation with Copenhagen University.
The Riga Graduate School was established in 1998 with the aim of producing high-level professionals, capable of establishing themselves in the international and local labour market. RGSL is one of the few universities in Latvia and other Baltic countries which provide quality education in international and European law. Today it is the only higher education provider in Latvia where you can obtain a masters degree in law, studying in English. Riga Graduate School of Law has one of the best law libraries in the Eastern Europe.
