Riga Graduate School of Law and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga celebrate the International Human Rights Day
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga welcomed Special Advisor of the international non-governmental organization Amnesty International, Mr Brian Dooley.
The event was opened by the speeches of the rector of the Riga Graduate School of Law, Lesley Jane Smith, and the rector of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Anders Paalzow. The International Human Rights Day gathered the students of the Stockholm School of Economics, the Riga Graduate School of Law students as well as other interested parties.
The representative of Amnesty International, Brian Dooley delivered a lecture on the activities of the organisation aimed at the observation and implementation of human rights. The other lectures were given by the Riga Graduate School of Law Assistant Lecturer, Ieva Miluna, who spoke on the recent developments in the restrictions of privacy and property rights in the context of war on terror, as well as the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga representative, Rita Kaša discussing the conditions for immigrants in Latvia with regard to access to the labour market.
The commemoration of the International Human Rights Day reflects an example of successful academic discussion between both schools in the context of interaction between law and economics.
