From 18 until 24 November the European Diplomacy Workshop took place in Warsaw. RGSL was represented by three Law & Diplomacy programme students – Līva Pavasare, Rita Vanaga and Otto Tabuns. During the event thirty participants from twenty various countries met at lectures, seminars and study visits. The students and lecturers discussed a range of issues such as the foreign policies of EU, Russia and Poland, the EU Eastern Partnership, energy security in the Caspian and Caucasus region etc. Public speaking and negotiation workshops took place as well. Even during the most intense debates it was clear that everybody present were the diplomats in-making – despite of having opposing opinions at times, participants kept mutual tolerance and respect at all times.
The participants visited the British and Turkish embassies and were hosted in the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well. These meetings gave the posibility to learn more regarding the specifics of the given institutions and the current topics under review. The ambassadors and diplomats told about their carriers, motivation to choose the diplomatic path, including their reflection on the experience and some tips and tricks. Beyond the workshop the group saw and enjoyed the imposing cityscape of Warsaw, not even mentioning the rich Polish cuisine. The participants express gratitude to Mr Jason Worlledge and his team at European Academy of Diplomacy for the efficient organization!
