The Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) organised an annual discussion on current human rights issues in Latvia. In 2016, it took place on 8 April.
Participants in the discussion included well-known experts such as RGSL Associated Professor and a judge at the European Court of Human Rights Mārtiņš Mits, RGSL Professor and a former judge at the European Court of Human Rights and currently a judge at the Latvian Constitutional Court Ineta Ziemele, Kristīne Līce, who represented the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers before International Human Rights Institutions, and RGSL PhD student Arina Melse.
Discussion was devoted to current human rights issues in Latvia, which are also important for the area of European Human rights.
Mārtiņš Mits discussed issues at the European Court of Human Rights and Ineta Ziemele discussed issues of a Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. Arina Melse informed about rulings of the European Court of Human Rights regarding Latvia. In the end Kristīne Līca told about Human rights issues in Latvia.
These annual discussions are well known amongst Latvian legal practitioners, civil servants and NGOs and always raise debate about human rights issues in Latvia. More than 120 participants attended the discussion.
