The Office of European Parliament in Riga at Eiropas māja hosts a discussion on Latvian NGO activity and representation patterns with the participation of the Latvian Member of the European Parliament Dr. Inese Vaidere and the RGSL lecturer Dr. Ilze Ruse, who in 2011/2012 carried out a research project on interest group activity in Latvia.
Empirical study, including 122 interviews in Latvia, is a part of a broader collaboration research project with Salzburg University (Austria). The project was realized with the support from the Austrian Science Fund and involved five EU member states (Spain, Austria, German, Ireland and Latvia). The engagement patters of Latvian civil society will be analyzed by the researcher and discussed during the seminar with the NGOs and the representatives of the public administration.
The issue of public awareness is of particular relevance with respect to the approaching Latvian Council presidency in 2015.
