On 13 April 2016 Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) director Karīna Kulberga signed a cooperation agreement with European Law firm ”KLOTIŅI & SERĢIS”, represented by attorneys at law Ivo Klotiņš and Pēteris Serģis, to become the main sponsor for the Riga Moot 2016.
Karīna Kulberga says: “We are very pleased to have long term cooperation with “KLOTIŅI & SERĢIS”, which also supported the very first Riga Moot in 2014. As RGSL has an international profile we are also delighted that we could prepare a moot court topic that is attracting interest from abroad. Moreover the grant from the sponsors is an additional motivator both as a prize for first place and also partly for teams from abroad to cover the cost of their stay.”
Attorney at law Ivo Klotiņš adds: “It is important for us to encourage students, who invest a lot of work and time in their career development. As an RGSL alumnus myself, I know how important it is to take part in moot courts as they help students realize how the law works in practice. We are delighted to support students and help them to take part in moot courts, which are close to real proceedings.”
The third Riga Moot 2016 will take place on 2 and 3 June. Ten teams have applied for the competition. The Riga Moot 2016 will assemble eager law students from Latvia, Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and Georgia.
The moot court will be in English and the topic is “Problematics with the Refugee Question in the Bundorff Sea”. The moot court competition is a great opportunity to develop not only deeper knowledge in different fields of law but also the skills needed in an occupational career such as personal and rhetorical skills and, in particular, team work abilities.
