Riga Graduate School of Law receives a gratitude for the contribution in the international humanitarian law expertise
Riga Graduate School of Law has received a paper of gratitude by the Latvian Red Cross for the significant contribution in dissemination of international humanitarian law and successful cooperation in the establishment of the Latvian international humanitarian law expert network.
The gratitude was received in the framework of the co-organized international humanitarian law conference “A Sea of Peace in an Ocean of Conflict – Baltic Region and International Humanitarian Law” by the Riga Graduate School of Law, the Latvian Red Cross, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs that took place on 17 October 2008 at the Riga Graduate School of Law.
The conference was devoted to the Baltic States’ contribution to the implementation and development of international humanitarian law. The conference was opened by Normans Penke, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and professor Indriķis Muižnieks, the Chairman of the Board of the Riga Graduate School of Law.
The conference speeches were delivered by recognized international humanitarian law experts, Professor Anita Ušacka, a Judge of the International Criminal Court, Guenael Mettraux, Defence Counsel before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Ilmārs Atis Lejiņš, Major in the National Armed Forces of Latvia and Lieutenant Colonel David Holahan, Defense Attaché of the United States.
