On 26 and 27 May 2014 the Student Association of Riga Graduate School of Law in cooperation with Riga Graduate School of Law organizes the annual Riga Moot Court competition for all law students in Latvia and abroad. This year’s topic is Public International Law and 8 teams will take part in the competition - 6 teams will represent Latvian universities and 2 teams - Belarus.
This year Riga Moot Court sponsor is law firm „Klotiņi & Serģis” which is internationally recognized company and which is a member of „European Law Firm” network.
Short summary of compromis, which will be discussed during the competition:
Rostmia and Asdistan (Fictional Countries) are neighbours with long standing social, economic and cultural ties. Rostmia is also major investor in Asdistani natural resources. In the recent past political changes in Asdistan and increased voice for the Military within the Rostmian government have led to strained ties. On top of this an Ultranational organisation based in Asdistan is alleged to have carried out attacks on Rostmian institutions like the Parliament and Police Academy. Rostmia has returned the favour by imposing an economic blockade. This has led to polarised situation on either side of the border, with both sides mobilising troops. The UN Security Council had intervened in a timely manner to avoid a conflict and this had led both countries to submit a Joint Compromis before the International Court of Justice to resolve their differences.
