We are happy to announce a scholarship for our students for one year of study at Temple University’s LL.M. programme, granted by Mr. John Medveckis, honorary consul of Latvia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and president of the J.J. Medveckis Foundation. The scholarship will cover full tuition and most living expenses in the United States.
Due to the generosity of Mr. Medveckis, Temple Law School will provide a 100% scholarship to one RGSL student to attend Temple for the 2023/24 academic year. The student will also receive 20,000 USD in financial assistance to offset their living expenses in Philadelphia. For the 2023/24 academic year, for US F1 student visa eligibility, total living expenses in Philadelphia are expected to be 22,000 USD, so the recipient will be required to prepare 2,000 USD on their own.
For more information, Temple law school Assistant Dean John Smagula will host an online information session on 18 January 2023 at 15:00 (EET).
The benefactor wants to support a RGSL student with strong academic credentials, who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the United States. This person should be able to serve as a diplomatic bridge between Latvia and the United States, and be willing to promote the culture of philanthropy in Latvia by expressing gratitude publicly for this opportunity.
Temple University School of Law is the professional graduate law school of Temple University, located in Philadelphia. Founded in 1895, the law school has an enrollment of nearly 1,000 students. RGSL students will be eligible to earn the Master of Laws (LL.M.) for Foreign-Trained Lawyers under this scholarship program.
More about Temple’s LL.M. programme can be found here: https://law.temple.edu/FLLM.
Although the program is a US law degree, students may take several courses in public and private international law as part of the LL.M. curriculum. Please visit this webpage for Temple’s international law area of study page for a list of international law course options: https://law.temple.edu/academics/areas-of-study/international-law/
We invite interested 3rd year Bachelor and Masters programme’s students to submit their applications with a motivation letter detailing their interest in continuing their studies at Temple Law in the 2023/24 academic year by 20 February 2023 to RGSL Director Ieva Rācenāja e-mail: ieva.racenaja(abols)rgsl.edu.lv
The successful applicants will be interviewed by the scholarship committee formed by RGSL faculty and staff, and the decision will be made by 15 March 2023.
Upon successful launch of the cooperation between RGSL and Temple Law, the John Medveckis scholarship might be renewed in future years. We at RGSL are grateful to Mr. Medveckis for the foundation’s generous support and are happy to work together to ensure a long and fruitful partnership.
In December 2021, Temple Law school dean and professor Rachel Rebouché hosted a delegation led by the Latvian ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Māris Selga, RGSL Visiting Lecturer Ivars Indāns, and Mr. John Medveckis, Honorary Consul of Latvia to Philadelphia.
