Public lecture by André Gillissen, Deputy-Head of Cabinet of the European Council President
RGSL

On 28 October at 13:00 Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) will be the venue for a public lecture by André Gillissen, Deputy-Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, who will speak about the functioning of the European Council and challenges it faces.
Indeed, under the Lisbon Treaty the European Council has gained a prominent role in the EU decision-making system. On the level of Heads of State, it deals with most political issues to be handled by consensus. The current challenges for the European Union are unprecedented: BREXIT, the migrant crisis due to instability beyond EU borders; response to Russia’s actions after the intervention in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, dealing with trade agreements, climate change etc. Our guest lecturer will present how the Cabinet of this EU institution operates and what challenges the European Council faces and how it deals with them.
The lecture is organized in the framework of the Master Degree course EU Decision-Making and Institutional Law and Advanced Programme. For further information please contact ilze.ruse(abols)rgsl.edu.lv">ilze.ruse(abols)rgsl.edu.lv.
