PhD fellow Toms Krūmiņš has published an article in the weekly law journal Jurista Vārds on the Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements and its impact on international commercial arbitration and the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.
The Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements, that for slightly more than two years is in force also in Latvia, is lately one of the most discussed instruments of private international law. Its possible potential is often compared with the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. The aim of Toms’ publication is to give a brief insight into the Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements and try to find an answer whether it will outcompete the 1958 New York Convention and international arbitration as the most common mechanism for resolving international commercial disputes.
