Lecturer: Kurt Engelen, MA (Belgium) is a staff officer at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the Military Committee of NATO. He is a passionate lecturer beloved by generations of RGSL students. Kurt is also a non-resident research fellow at the Centre for Security and Strategic Research of the National Defence Academy of Latvia and a visiting lecturer at the Royal Military Academy (Belgium). Kurt holds an MA degree in International Politics from the Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales et Stratégiques (CERIS). During his career, he continued his studies and research at the Stockholm School of Economics, the Loyola University of Chicago, Cambridge University Judge Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston and the University of Geneva. About the course: This course focuses on a specific policy field of the EU, the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), which by its development throughout the treaties enhanced the EU’s potential as a global actor. In order to understand the dynamics of the CFSP, this course addresses three main aspects – actors, policy instruments and actions.
